xtraCHEF Recipe Card: Natalie Vittese

Explain your role at xtraCHEF.

As People & Culture Manager, I’m responsible for managing all HR operations – from recruiting to payroll and benefits. Much of my focus over the last few months has been on fostering company culture and employee engagement while we are all working remotely. I also have a role in company communications and working with teams and leadership with an overall goal of making the experience of working at xtraCHEF a positive one.

What did you do before you came xtraCHEF?

I’ve worked in HR for over seven years in a few roles – as a consultant, a people operations manager and as an operations specialist. There’s a special place in my heart for the tech community in Philadelphia and I’m passionate about helping companies grow.

What do you love about xtraCHEF?

I love the approach to work and the support from the team. I’ve felt like I can both meaningfully contribute and be myself here since day one.

Why are you passionate about the restaurant industry?

I grew up in a pretty classic Italian-American family and food has always been an expression of love. Whether it’s cooking it, sharing it, or eating it, food brings people together in a really special way.

What do you do when you’re not working?

I am lucky to have amazing friends and family both near and far. When I’m not spending time with those in Philly, I love to travel and can’t wait until I can safely do that again. I’ve also gotten into barre over the last year and look forward to every chance I get to practice.

What’s your best WFH tip?

Be kind to yourself and others. We are all figuring things out as we go, now more than ever, and at times it can be really difficult and confusing. A reminder to yourself that you are doing your best can really help.

What’s your favorite quarantine hobby/show/book/etc.?

Along with everyone else, I’ve been bingeing tv like nobody’s business, but my favorite hobby has to be that I’ve started playing guitar again. Shout out to Fender for offering free online lessons at a much needed time 🙌  It’s a refresher for me since it’s been about a decade since I last picked up my guitar. Playing again, even if it’s pretty badly, has been a relaxing creative outlet for when I’m not stressing over my failing sourdough starter project.
